Verify scrapped by HMRC

HMRC scraps use of Verify scheme leaving taxpayers locked out Since HMRC withdrew from the Government’s Verify service last month thousands of people have been locked out of filing their tax returns, the Guardian reports. Tax payers must now use the Government Gateway, requiring two forms of ID. Those who can’t provide the documents have been told by HMRC to submit their tax returns on paper. Last year, the Cabinet Office announced its Verify system would close in April 2023. HMRC’s decision to scrap the service a year early appears to have caught its staff and users unawares.
