Tax system unbalanced

In April’s pay packet where National Insurance went up by £1 a week for someone on average earnings, I’ve seen countless “experts” on the television saying it’s unreasonable and that we need a “fairer” tax system – or in other words one where the higher earners pay more.

What the experts forget is that the top 1% of earners pay 28% of all taxes already, up from 25% in 2009-10. There are only 500,000 people who earn over £130,000 (which is the benchmark for being in the top 1% of earners).

With remote working now a very realistic possibility, there is of course no need for these 500,000 people to remain in the UK and they could very easily relocate to a lower tax environment. If they did so, then the UK tax system would fall over.
