Over the last quarter Croner-i has seen the number of insurance claims increase by 60% as HMRC ramps up enquiry activity into potential tax avoidance
Michele Spicer, claims control manager at Croner-i said: ‘From a claims perspective, we have seen about a 60% increase in HMRC activity, over the last few months.
‘Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme was, understandably, the main type of enquiry that we were seeing coming out of HMRC, however, since furlough has now ceased we are now seeing an increase in VAT enquiries being opened. VAT has been the main enquiry received by the team during the last three months’.
‘There has also been an increase in corporation tax and income tax aspect enquiries’.
