Just a quick report on the Riponion Rally that we did yesterday. It was the first round of this year’s British Historic Rally Championship (which is the regulatory body’s official historic rally championship).
It was based in the fast-flowing North Yorkshire forests and featured some very rapid sections and required some very committed driving.
There were thousands of spectators out in the forests yesterday.
We set off quite well in the morning, catching and passing some cars. We had one big moment where we went flying off the track backwards, but we just stopped short of a big ditch and were able to continue. Late in the morning, a rock impact broke the clutch arm and we found it hard to get second gear.
We got back to service, and the crew fixed it and we went back out in the afternoon. The clutch held up, but second gear started to go and in the end we finished with the gearbox still intact but complaining!
I was very happy with 4th in class in the end!
