Frozen tax allowances

Some tax allowances have been frozen for more than 40 years The Telegraph examines several tax thresholds that have been frozen for decades, costing households thousands. The inheritance tax gifting allowance has been frozen at £3,000 a year since the early 1980s. Had the allowance increased in line with inflation it would be worth £10,708 today, according to analysis from wealth manager Quilter. The child benefit high-income tax charge threshold has remained unchanged at £50,000 since 2013. It would be £64,906 if it had tracked inflation. Finally, the pension contribution limit for money not considered "relevant UK earnings" has been frozen at £3,600 since 2006. It would be set at £5,760 today if linked to inflation.
