Delay in Autumn statement

PM delays fiscal plan until mid-November Rishi Sunak has delayed the announcement of the Government’s fiscal plans until November 17, with the statement initially due on October 31. The Prime Minister said the extra time was needed to ensure the right decisions were made. The Treasury has said the new date will now be a full Autumn Statement. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said he agreed with the move and explained that the change of plans had been discussed with the Bank of England’s governor, Andrew Bailey. Mr Hunt added: “I want to confirm that it will demonstrate debt falling over the medium term, which is really important for people to understand. But it’s also extremely important that that statement is based on the most accurate possible economic forecasts and forecasts of public finances.”
