After a superb season that started on the snow and sheet ice in the forests of mid Wales in February and finished in the fast flowing tracks of North Yorkshire, the 2015 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship has drawn to a close.
With two class wins on the Rally Isle of Man to add to the four class wins, the Harris & Co Mini Cooper clinched the Championship class B2 title for cars up to 1300cc before the season end.
Phil Harris explained “With six class wins from six starts, we knew that, after the Rally Isle of Man, we could not improve our Championship scores, so we have chosen to sit out the final round the Trackrod Rally in North Yorkshire.”
“We knew that a number of our main rivals in Category 1 were doing the event, so we just had to wait and see how they did. We knew that depending on results, we had a chance of a top four finish.”
“Following the Trackrod Rally, the final Championship results have now been released. I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to land second overall in Category 1.”
“Bearing in mind that Category 1 is for all cars built pre 1968, and we are the smallest, least powerful car in the category, it is a sensational result.”
“The championship result is a fantastic tribute to all the hard work that the team at Rob Smith Rallying have put in to both build the car in the first place and run it through the season.”
“It’s also a great accolade for my co-drivers, Alan Walker, Paul Price and Jez Rogers. They’ve been hugely instrumental in helping me achieve the most successful season of my career.”
